Full day at Angkor

38 °C

So after another day exploring Angkor we still had one day left on our ticket. We decided that instead of hiring a tuk-tuk for a day we would instead take advantage of our hotel and rent an air-conditioned van for the day and travel around in that. It was only a few dollars more to take the van which turned out to be a great choice. We made use of by exploring the surrounding area of Angkor Wat as well. So early that morning we got up for a big breakfast and then got in the van around 7am and left for Angkor. Our first visit that day was to the Ta Prohm temple which is famous for the giant trees that have overgrown many of the temple walls and buildings. Its a spectacular sight to see, some of the trees are very old and very tall.

The buildings inside Ta Prohm were in surprisingly good shape although some sections had collapsed due to the massive growth of some of the root system of the trees. Though it was much smaller than some of the other temples, it is still one of our favorites.

As you can tell by the amount of the pictures, we absolutely loved it there. It was a very surreal felling when you stood inside the temple and thought about the construction of it and how the jungle had taken over it.

After Ta Prohm we headed out in the van to our next destination.
