Chiang Mai Night Safari

Last night we went to Chiang Mai Night Safari with Clara and Kenneth and it was amazing! It is a government owned attraction located in the area of Doi Sutep-Pui National Park which is approximately 131 hectares in size. There are four main attractions to the park the Predator Prowl Tram, Savanna Safari Tram, the Jaguar trail and the fountain light show. The grounds were immaculate and surprisingly there was no one there. We pretty much had the whole park to ourselves which was great!Chiang Mai Night Safari

It was 5:30/6:00 so there was still daylight so we decided to go on the Jaguar trail first then the tram rides at night. While we were walking to the trail we came across a two year old lemur and a baby hyena. Lemur

We were able to touch and play with them which was neat. The lemur was the best. He was sooo soft and cuddly and had really soft hands.

Next was a couple of lions with their trainers.

They were 11 month cubs, one a female and one a male. The one was a little jumpy but of course Kenneth asked if we could touch them and the trainers just laughed at us and shook their heads no.

We continued to walk down the Jaguar Trail and came across a lot of unique and interested animals. We weren't allowed to use a flash because it would spook the animals so the pictures that we took aren't too great - they are really blurry. But luckily Kenneth has an awesome camera (jealous) and he got some really nice shots so he's going to give some to us, which is great! Here are some of the animals that we came across that had enough light to actually take the picture.... sorry for the blurriness!!

We finally came across the jaguar and it was not happy. He kept roaming around and growling. We're not sure what he was unhappy about but something was definitely pissing him off.

It was dark by now and we decided to go on the Savanna Safari tram. It took us around to see the animals and some were able to come right up to the tram which was cool. It was neat doing it in the dark, it just added to the experience. Obviously my pictures didn't turn out because you can use flash but here are a few that you can kind of make out haha. After the Savanna Safari tram ride we noticed an area that you can take a picture with a white tiger cub. Of course we couldn't pass that up! It was such a great deal. They took more than one shot and we got all the image files on a disk plus a print out of the best one for $8. They also took some more photos on our personal camera which was nice of them! . We then had a something to eat and watched the fountain light show. It was pretty good.

We finished off the night with the Predator Prowl tram ride. Kenneth, Clara and Tyler

It was similar to the Savanna Safari tram but had larger more fierce animals. Both tram rides where nice how the animals were surrounded by a cage but instead they had large motes surrounding the area that separated them from everything else. The really dangerous ones had a cage or a tall fence.

It was around 10:30 pm and we were finished at the Chiang Mai Night Safari but we were definitely happy that we went. We are planing to go to a Muay Thai fight tonight which will an experience!

Talk to you later about the Muay Thai fight!!!

Cheers

Chiang Mai

So we arrived today in Chiang Mai around 1pm and by no means was the train ride short even though we took the overnight train haha. Sleeping on a train isn't a problem for some people depending on what the beds are like and the cabin you are in. I (Tyler) didn't have a problem at all, I fell asleep about an hour after they put the beds down for us but Sarah had a real long night because she couldn't sleep. Apparently the top bunks are not that comfy and the lights from the cabin shine on your eyes all night. F.Y.I if you ever take a second class sleeper train in Thailand, spend the extra 75 baht and get the lower bunk!Sarah and Tyler

Today we didn't do too much. Just got a bite to eat in the old city in Chiang Mai. We met some great people, Kenneth and Clara from London,Clara and Kenneth

while we were in Bangkok and we decided to all go together to Chiang Mai. On our last night in Bangkok we went to a basement bar called Climax. We went with Kenneth, Clara, and her brother Alan. It was a great little dive of a bar with an awesome cover band that did a little bit of everything from Rage against the machine, to bon jovi, to Lady gagaCover Band

Chiang Mai

sunny 35 °C

We're packing our bags and getting ready to go to the train station. We're off to Chiang Mai! Our train leaves at 7:30 and we should be arriving in Chiang Mai around 8:00 tomorrow morning. We got the second class tickets which has a bunk bed and the seats fold down into a bed. It's nice that it's over night so it won't feel so long!

talk to you later in Chiang Mai!!!

We don't have free wi-fi here so I have to keep it short... sorry everyone haha. But we haven't really been doing to much since we got here. We arrived around 1:00 and went straight to the beach. Today we got up and did the same thing... beach :) We ate at a restaurant last night that was right on the beach.IMG_2270

It was soo nice having the water right there and watching the sunset while we had a few Changs (beer) and ate are delicious kabobs. While we were eating we were treated to a wonderful "Fire Show" Put on by a family with what seemed like an 8 and a 10 year old boy and their father.

I don't think anyone back home would let their kids try what they were doing! We then ventured to the bar that's at our resort where we had our first bucket!IMG_2310

A bucket is a sand pail (the ones that you make sand castles with) filled with any alcohol and red bull. What an experience hahaha. We're staying another night here and haven't decided if we will tomorrow night as well. Anyways, we should get going.. times a ticking! We're off to eat! Hope everyone's well and enjoying the cold weather hahaha!!! We are for sure enjoying the hot sunny days here :)

take care.
