Hey everyone, our trip is coming to an end soon :( but we are happy to come home and see all of our friends and family. I know I know, we havn't been updating to blog everyday like a lot of you want us to, so again I'm making excuses but we have been in Cambodia for a week and we pretty much drained ourselves everyday out in the heat checking out all the amazing temples that are apart of Angkor Wat.

So we last left off with our happy easter post to everyone back home, Sarah drew that message in the sand on our last day in Koh Phangan. It was a great island, very relaxed on the north end where we stayed at the cookies resort. After drawing the message in the sand, we left the island with Kevin and Jamie and headed to Koh Sok for a few days and then flew from Surat Thani to Bangkok. Because Kev and Ja'mie didn't have much time left on their trip, we Sarah and I couldn't decide what we wanted to do with our last few days, Kev and Ja'mie left for Cambodia after a day in Bangkok. Sarah and I stayed another night or two in Bangkok and then met up with Ken and Clara again after they returned from Koh Phangan. Ken and Clara's thai visas needed to be renewed and they also wanted to go and see Angkor Wat in Cambodia so we decided that we would also go with them to spend a few days in Cambodia and see the worlds largest religious site: Angkor Wat.

After a 5 hour bus ride from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet, the border town where you cross to Cambodia.

Once we crossed the border, and payed a small bribe to the Cambodian Custom officials for an "express visa" we got a private taxi from Poi Pet (the Cambodian border town) to Siem Reap where Angkor Wat is located and also where our hotel was located. It was about a 2 hour taxi ride down the straightest, flattest, and hottest road we had been on in a long time. The road was surrounded by farm land which actually reminded us of home. We arrived in Siem Reap around 6pm and we were completely worn out from the day of traveling and we were almost in shock when we arrived at the hotel.

We knew that the hotel would be nice, we had booked in on agoda.com for 25 USD a night and it was rated as a 4 Star hotel, but we had no idea how nice it would actually be. It is called the Smiling Hotel Resort and Spa and it definitely lived up to its 4 Star rating. Upon arriving we were met by a bell boy and several smiling staff members. We were shown to our rooms and were very impressed.

Although we had a bit of an issue with the A/C we got it sorted out and then enjoyed some much needed R&R at the pool which was nice and cold (exactly what we needed after spending the day traveling). We made sure to make use of our complimentary robes and slippers while we were there too, after all we were at a 4 star resort and spa!

Ken and Clara surprised us at our resort in Ko Phangan before the Full Moon party. It was really nice to see them and arrange how we were getting to the party and all the details. We took a truck to Had Rin Beach where the Full Moon party took place. It was definitely an experience. There were two beaches that you could party on either the sunset or sunrise beach. We chose the sunrise beach. We arrived at 11:00 pm and there were probably 10 - 20 thousand people packed on the beach.

We took a taxi back to our resort at 6:00am just in time for our free breakfast that Cookies Resort had ready for us. It was a great night and it was great to party with Kevin, Jamie, Ken and Clara.

On April 1st we left Cookies Resort and headed to Khao Sok where we stayed at the Rainforest Bungalows for one night. The bungalows that we stayed in had great views but the inside was nothing special.

While we were at Smiley Bungalows we went tubing down the river. It was fun but we wished there was more water so we would've went faster. Supposedly November is the best time to go tubing because it's just after the rainy season and there's enough water to go fast and not dangerous. During the rainy season, the water level is really high and tubing is really dangerous. It was neat to float down the river and see mountains and jungle surrounding you.

Yesterday (April 3rd) we took a flight back to Bangkok. Kevin and Jamie are venturing off to Cambodia and we aren't for sure on what we are doing. We are either going back up north to visit some places that we didn't get to see before or we might go to Cambodia as well.

It was great traveling with Kevin and Jamie and we will miss having their company and jokes. Hopefully we can meet up with them again before they have to go home! We wish them safe travels to Cambodia!

Koh Samui was next on our list of places to get to. We not only had to get to our next hotel which we had a reservation, but we also had to meet up with Kevin Dale and Jamie Grzbubowski? Ghzerbowski? Gerbowski?

As I had mentioned in the Koh Phi Phi blog, we got the opportunity to stay at a great spa resort in great little a-frame bungalows and air-con!

This is also where Kevin and Jamie were staying. It was great to hang out with them and share a few drinks and just relax for a few days. While on Koh Samui we caught a Muay Thai fight,

and then sadly had to say good-bye to mom/pat. It was sad to see her go after traveling with her for a few weeks; we had some great times and shared some great experiences. Love you Mom/Pat!

After the 4 nights on Samui with Mom/Pat, Jamie, Kevin and his family, we were off to Koh Phangan for the famous Full Moon Party! We had to book in advance a place to stay because Koh Phangan gets about 10 000 people arriving in the few days prior the party. We ended up waiting to long to book and we were only able to secure accommodations on the opposite side of the island in a mid-range hotel. No worries though, we can take a cab there and back from the party so we don’t need to worry about transportation.

The hotel we have is like I mentioned mid-range. So it is a bit nicer than most of the places we have stayed at thus far. The rooms are spacious, clean, and come equipped with fridge, a/c, and satellite TV. The view from our room is just as nice, it overlooks Haad Salad, the beach area where we are. Our room is perched up on a hill so it’s a bit of a steep climb to get to the room but once you are there it is well worth the hike.

So as I write this we are getting ourselves prepared for the Full Moon party tonight. We are going to arrive fairly late, probably around 10 or 11 pm and try and make it to the sunset. We promise everyone that we will be super-careful tonight, we are on the buddy system all night!

It was a very relaxing time because we didn’t do much at all except hang around the pool, get some sun, and play some catch. So for obvious reasons, we didn’t do much blogging.

So last time we left off we were about to go on the overnight camping trip to Maya Bay. We weren’t to sure what to expect from the trip so we were a bit apprehensive at first when waiting to depart for the pier. At the meeting place there were only a few people, mainly our age and we thought it would be a small group. All of the sudden about 18-20 young college -aged Swedish people showed up with bags full of Sangsom. We knew right away it was going to be a crazy night. The boat ride out Maya Bay was really fun because about 30-32 people in total were going on the camping trip, plus the crew. It was really cramped during the boat ride but the Swedes brought a small Stereo and they entertained us by singing a song about being on a boat.

Before we got to the beach we stopped to do some snorkeling or swimming for just under an hour. The snorkeling was very good but it was a far swim from the boat to the reef so not many people snorkeled.

After snorkeling we took a short boat ride to Maya Bay. At first it was hard to take in the beauty of the Bay because all we could see was longboats parked all down the beach which was crowded with people.

It was about 5:45pm when we arrived on the beach and went to the camping shelter to drop our bags. We went straight back to the beach to check it out and have a beer.

We had heard that if you crossed the small bay you could see an amazing sunset. As you can see in these photos, it really was a nice sunset.

And in perfect timing all the tourist were gone, and we were left with a deserted and quite beach.

So after the sunset and getting to know some of the Swedes that were also on the trip, we went back to the camp for a great beach side dinner of red curry chicken, sautéed vegetables, and rice. After dinner we spent some more time getting to know one another and then we spent the rest of the night having a few buckets and hanging out on the beach.

When it came time to go to sleep we all got our sleeping mats, sleeping bags, and pillows and found a spot on the beach to sleep. It was incredibly clear that night and the stars were as bright as I have seen them yet. It is almost surreal to be sleeping on the beach under the stars and surrounded by jungle and giant limestone cliffs.

The next morning we woke up about an hour after sunrise, the sun was up but still behind the cliffs. Again, it was bit of a surreal feeling waking up and seeing what surrounds you.

It was a great night and definitely a great experience, even the boat ride back when we were confronted rough water in the longboats which were overcrowded.

When we arrived back after the camping trip, we had about half a day to get some food, clean up a bit and then rest because later that day we had arranged to go on a 6 hour sailing trip around the Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lei. It was a 30-something foot sailboat with 12 passengers including us and Captain Bob: a Canadian who sailed the boat we were on from Vancouver 12 years ago.

He arrived in Thailand 3 years ago and set up his sailing trips. Again, it was another amazing experience. He took us around Phi Phi Lei and showed us some great coves, caves, beaches, snorkeling spots, and even a place to do some cliff jumping.
